DotNet: IDEs Task List Nanny

112| Sun, 11 Nov 2007 09:03:00 GMT| nanookrubsit| Comments (4)
Is there a way to switch of the functionality that keeps the task list up to date while I'm writing code? Sometimes I find it very handy, but sometimes it just slows me down. So I'd like to switch it off when it annoys me and switch it back on when I'm happy for it to go check.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Just close the window. Open it when you want to see it.

Oh boy guess who feels stupid. You're saying that if you close that friggin' window it stops doing all that work in the background. I'm feeling a Victor Meldrew moment coming on......

Thanks

Alas. It wasn't to be.

I closed the task list window and typed in some crap that won't compile. And still, it went off syntax checking it and underlining it with blue wavy lines. I also noticed the odd flicker of an "Hourglass" pointer and a short stop of the cursor.

So that doesn't help.

Also, if I then go and view the "Build Errors" on the task list, it shows immediately. It's not like it has to work 'em out or think about it.

Dang.

So you don't want the built-in error checking in the IDE?

I don't think you can turn that off in .Net... you could use Notepad to write your code though... :)

I didn't see a setting in VS 2003. Not sure about 2005. Don't have that at work yet.
